One word.

Each year I make a laundry list of resolutions I will keep in the New Year.  And each year I accomplish less than one of the items on my list.  At least my track record is consistent.  This year however I am going to try something new.  I am going to choose a word to focus on for the year.  One word. Seems feasible, though it is more than I normally accomplish each year.   The other challenge is I am not a one-word girl.  I used to write explanations to my answers on multiple choice tests because the one-word answers were not enough content.  So this is a challenge on so many levels for me but here we go….

My word for 2014 is: Gratitude.

Gratitude is a feeling or attitude in acknowledgment of a benefit that one has received or will receive. (  I love this definition!  Gratitude is an attitude and guess who controls your attitude?  YOU!  It’s not some mystical concept or state-of-being dependent upon anyone else.  IT IS YOUR CHOICE.  It is not always an easy choice and boy do I struggle with it often- but it is within my control and being the uber competitive control freak that I am, this word, this challenge, is right up my alley.

Gratitude may not be your word and that’s ok. We all have areas we need to challenge ourselves to grow.

Don’t waste another innocent piece of paper on a resolution list that will only make you feel bad because you did not accomplish any of it.  Instead, decide on a word that will challenge you to think differently and hopefully after 365 days of thinking, result in action.

So what’s it going to be?  What’s your word?
